President Muhammadu Buhari has arrived in Kenya for a three day visit.
The president is billed to attend a ceremony with his counter part,
President Uhuru Kenyatta in Eldoret today, January 27, to honour the
fallen KDF soldiers that were killed by the Al-Shabaab in El Adde,
Somalia.

The event is the first item in the itinerary released by State House,
Nairobi, though the two leaders are also expected to hold bilateral
talks in a bid to boost trade between the two countries.

The programme menu also disclosed that the two leaders are expected to
talk on curbing terrorism as well as the exploration of oil and gas
resources. The programme will end on Friday, January 29, 2016.

Kenya and Nigerian relations
In July 2015, the two countries concluded an agreement for the establishment of a Joint Commission for Cooperation.

The agreement established an enabling framework for
enhancing bilateral cooperation in areas of mutual interest including
trade, tourism, education, energy, agriculture and technical
cooperation.

These agreements were signed in April 2015 during the administration of former president Goodluck Jonathan, who visited Kenya in September, 2013. Uhuru also visited Nigeria in May, 2014.

The Nigerian leader who landed at the Eldoret
International Airport shortly after 2:30 pm received full state honours
including a 21 gun salute from KDF officers.
Immediately after the arrival ceremonies, President
Kenyatta and his guest held tet-a-tet before they left for Moi Barracks
in Eldoret for an interdenominational memorial service in honour of KDF
soldiers who were killed in El Adde, Somalia following an Al-Shabaab
ambush.
The service is also being attended by the Somalia
President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud who jetted into the country earlier this
morning.
The Somali leader was received by senior government
officials led by the Deputy President William Ruto and Foreign Affairs
Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohammed.
Today’s prayer meeting is the second that President Kenyatta is attending in a fortnight.
