In a bid to inject a fresh pair of hands to run the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), the Minister of Transportation, Mr. Chibuike Amaechi, has submitted Ms. Hadiza Bala Usman’s name to President Muhammadu Buhari to take over as the new managing director of NPA, THISDAY has learnt. Should Buhari approve the recommendation, Ms. Bala Usman, 40, will become the first female chief executive of a top tier federal government agency and of the NPA. She shall take over from Alhaji Habib Abdullahi, who was reinstated by Buhari in August 2015 as the managing director of NPA, after he had been shown the exit by former President Goodluck Jonathan in April 2015. Sources in the presidency, who confirmed that Ms. Bala Usman’s name had been sent to the president, said Amaechi had decided to make the changes in order to overhaul the NPA. A former president of the country, Olusegun Obasanjo has warned Nigeria and anad African countries on the hazards of the lingering and increasing youth unemployment. Olusegun Obasanjo made this call while receiving the newly appointed President of ECOWAS Commission, Marcel Alain de Souza at his Abeokuta residence. The Central Bank of Nigeria of Nigeria has disclosed that it set aside N2.5 billion loan for members of the National Youth Service Corps with profitable business ideas. According to the apex bank, the money was set from the  N220 billion Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Fund and that it would be given to corp members as part of the Youth Entrepreneurship Development Programme (YEDP). YEDP is an initiative of the bank launched by the governor, Godwin Emefiele, as part of efforts to create one million jobs. Under the programme, the CBN will provide each of the corp member with a N3 million loan to start up the business as well build the entrepreneurship capacity of the corp member. The scheme covers the area of agriculture, cottage industry, mining and solid minerals, tourism, arts and crafts, Information and Communications Technology and any other activity that may be determined by the CBN.
